Welcome to the Dimensional Surface Beading Course

Welcome to the Dimensional Surface Beading Course

We will be playing with beads...but also with anything that sparkles and you like! I've pulled old jewelry pieces, chain, sequins (all of this is just referred to as "baubles")...and several different shapes and sizes of beads.

We all have different "stuff" in our stash...so I'm excited to see what you come up with as we progress through these little projects.

One item that we are going to make "optional" is a doll...my first idea was for a beautiful ballerina that is covered in beading. But, I quickly decided after making the doll that her long legs might be tough for some to stuff. Well, not hard really...as I didn't really have any problem. But, it is tedious work...as small bits of poly-fill (think the size of a small boy's glass marble collection)...needed to be pushed into that long leg...over and over and over to stuff it really tightly. So, I'm going to give you the pattern for the doll after the last task...but make that "optional" if you want to play around with her or not. Once I do get my doll finished, I'll do a new class on just her. So, if you want to make the basic doll and then wait for that class next year...it will save you some time.

We WILL be working on a small shape...that I'm calling an "ornament" because that's what I think I'll do with this. But, you can really do whatever you like when finished beading.

There will also be a cabochon focal piece to bead...and a lovely beaded button to make. These could both be added to the fabric based bracelet/collar as the main adornment. Again, I'm making the size/type of the item optional for you so if you don't want to sew as much...do the bracelet (or other small object) rather than the larger collar design.

Small beaded critters will be included that can be added to any crazy quilt motif....and a surround that can be used for tassels..which are always fun to create.

So, while we'll be "all over the map" playing with beads...I think that you'll have fun and can think of many ways to use these techniques in crazy quilting and other artistic endeavors.

Thanks for your patience as we are getting this going...and welcome to the course!
